subheads of Public Works Recurrent result in a saving of

$5,500 on this head.

The programme of new Public Works

Extraordinary for 1910 is even more modest that it was for

the current year. There are only 7 new items involving an

estimated expenditure in 1910 or $97,600. I have dealt with

each of these items in my speech in Council, but I append

a brief summary of the reasons which render each of them

necessary.

(a). Chinese Staff Quarters, Kennedy Town

Hospital: $3,000.

During the course of an inspection

which I made on the 4th. September, 1907, I observed that

several large and permanent matsheds were in very close

proximity to Kennedy Town Hospital. As they were built in a

cutting in the hill, access to them could only be gained

from the side of the Hospital, and they appeared to me to

constitute
